What a wonderful opportunity it was for all of us attending Triennial to be there and to observe the historic and spirit filled moments of our Church.  Harriett Neer, with her usual grace and charm, led us for ten days of “Living in the Light” which included outstanding speakers, joyous music, educational and informative workshops, and lots of warm, caring women from all across our national Church.

One of our main speakers was the Right Reverend Geralyn Wolf, Bishop of Rhode Island and author of Down and Out in Providence, an account of her sabbatical spent as a homeless woman.  Her poignant story of life on the streets and in shelters gave us new insights and sensitivity to the plight of those who live this way.  We also had the pleasure of hearing Phoebe Griswold discuss her activities with global peace, hunger, development and relief.  The Reverend Barbara Cawthorne Crafton hosted a delightful luncheon on Tuesday where we got to meet “Q”, her wonderful husband whom she lovingly talks about in her writings.

Perhaps some of our most fun and favorite times at Triennial revolved around music.  On a daily basis, we were blessed with the beautiful sounds of Dr. Horace Boyer, who is one of the most prominent musicians in our Church.  At lunchtime everyday, we enjoyed the entertainment of St. Andrew’s Gospel Choir, Marty Burnett, the Very Reverend John Smylie, and Elisabeth von Trapp (Captain von Trapp’s granddaughter).

Every day started with Holy Eucharist that included Triennial and General Convention participants. The services were all unique and different with thousands of people attending.  Those attending Triennial had opportunities to observe General Convention and we were delighted to be there when the House of Delegates announced our new Presiding Bishop.

It was an extraordinary experience and a once in a lifetime opportunity to be with so many Episcopalians.  We are thankful to have had Harriett’s incredible leadership over the past three years and are pleased with Sandra Powers’ election to the national board as Province VII representative.  The uplifting and positive tone of the meeting was overwhelming and made the ten days a very spiritual and meaningful journey for all of us.
